PEDAL ON THE PIER
WE SPIN, KIDS WIN!
Together we hope to raise $1 million to send under-served kids to camp!
Each year, we are all extremely fortunate enough to spend our summers at Canyon Creek. “Canyon Creek Summer Camp provides a safe, non-competitive environment where boys and girls build confidence and independence, learn teamwork and develop problem-solving skills” It encourages all of the principles of peace, love, and happiness. It is not just a camp, it is a home. We countdown the days until we can return to this wonderful place where we have met lifelong friends, step outside our comfort zones with all of the great activities, and feel a great sense of comfort and content that CCSC promotes. Every year we attend Canyon Creek, we gain new perspectives on life as we grow up there throughout the summers.
“In 2009, Joyce and Jeff Robinson, along with David Moss, had the vision to help counter social and economic disparities in South LA by building bridges between student groups through unconventional means – they wanted to send kids to a three-day outdoor camp. This was the beginning of the Harold Robinson Foundation (HRF), where the goal was to bring as many South LA youth to camp as possible.
From early on, the founders realized that the three-day retreats were much more than just kids going on an incredible adventure. Parents and teachers were getting tremendous value out of their experience as well. Participants were building new relationships and friendships, perspectives were changing, and disparate groups were coming together in a healthy way…often for the first time ever. It quickly became clear that the HRF camp experience was a powerful tool for building community and unity, for youth and adults alike.
Our mission at HRF has evolved from the simple notion of providing youth with a fun camp experience to improving young lives and creating a positive impact across South LA. We invest in students, their families, their schools and their communities. We bring youth and parents from Watts and Compton out for a safe, nurturing, and enriching experience at no cost to them, and use that experience to foster positive discourse, provide tools for reflection, and help young men and women set goals to rewrite the future of their school and their community.
Pedal on the Pier is an outdoor physical philanthropy event with 100 + stationary bikes on the iconic Santa Monica Pier, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 400 + riders cycle for 5 hours/100 miles with some of the city’s top cycling instructors, while 1,000 family and friends cheer them on. We have great DJ’s, musical and special guests, dancing, vendors and lots of great food and drink. POTP is a high energy, a fundraising event which benefits the HAROLD ROBINSON FOUNDATION. HRF is a 501(c)(3) working to improve the lives of our city’s impoverished children by providing them with a camp retreat where they participate in diverse recreational programs that are designed to strengthen confidence, independence, build character and develop leadership skills.” Any donation you are able to give is greatly appreciated and tax-deductible.
Thank you for supporting our effort in trying to make a difference in a child's life.
