Ubuntu In Motion

Let's Get Movin'!

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak Pedal on the Pier has gone virtual.

This is a 7-day virtual event August 9-15, 2020.

Ubuntu In Motion

The event will be a 7-day community activation that includes worldwide participation for ONE WEEK of MOVEMENT, social media posting and fundraising.

Participants can walk, run, spin etc. daily all in the spirit of physical fitness and community building to support HRFs capacity to provide much needed camp programs for our Watts community students and their families

Event Timeline

Step 1: Register yourself or a group & create your Quaranteam 1-4 People.

Step 2: Decide what personal fitness challenge you plan to commit to from Aug 9-15. (Walking, Running, Cycling, Yoga, Swimming, Hiking, At-Home Workouts etc all in the spirit of physical fitness and community building)

Step 3: Begin fundraising by reaching out to your community & posting on social media. Share your fitness commitment for the week of Ubuntu In Motion, and how all donations will support HRFs capacity to provide much needed camp programs (virtually and in-person when allowed) for our Watts community and families.

Step 4: Ubuntu In Motion begins! Start your personal or team challenge on the week of Aug 9-15. Share your progress daily, email your friends and families for last minute donations and tag us online so that we can see your progress and help you get donations during your final push!

Pedal on the Pier has consistently funded all Camp Ubuntu programming needs each year and we are preparing for the return of in-person programming in the community after-school and/or on weekends as well as weekend retreats at Canyon Creek as soon as it is safe to do so.

HRF provides meaningful camp-minded programming utilizing a variety of different platforms for this ever-changing time we are currently experiencing.

Here are some examples of the programming elements we are raising funds for:

Outdoor Activities Equipment: To abide by all health and safety regulations, activities that share equipment are not really practical. Instead, Outdoor Activity Kits can be provided to each camper so they can be active after being stuck indoors for so long.

Health and Safety Kits: A lot goes into maintaining a safe and sanitized environment for small, outdoor group activities. These kits will allow campers and counselors to create an environment that is equal parts fun and interactive for the campers, while also providing many different options to abide by all proper experts' recommended advice.

Educational Games Kit: This is a fun way to help prepare campers to go back to school. Between transitioning to a virtual learning system, to processing the trauma of a pandemic, to different learning styles, many experts believe spring’s virtual school slowed down learning for students. Providing educational games and activities is a way to provide in-person education once again while also helping students prepare for the new grade ahead.

Essential Supplies: HRF continues to support the immediate needs of our Watts families with fresh produce distributions and essential supplies that students will need for school, whether it is virtual or in-person.

Please join our MOVEment and help us make a difference in a child’s life.
